Specialists and interested people in the Kingdom are awaiting the launch of the National Media Conference organized by Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University represented by the College of Media and Communication during the period from 21-22 May 2023, which specialists and interested people rely on to consolidate the concept of national media, enrich its theoretical frameworks, discuss the contributions of the Saudi national media to community issues, keep pace with developments in the Kingdom, based on Vision 2030, and demonstrate the expected national role of young media professionals in the Kingdom, in light of the vision.

The Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Conference, Prof. Dr. Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al-Askar, confirmed that the Committee began from an early date to propose candidates to submit working papers, and participants in the dialogue and special sessions of the conference. He pointed out that about 70 speakers from Saudi academic and professional media leaders, and cultural and intellectual elites will participate in the conference, enriching with their interventions more than 16 dialogue sessions and 4 workshops.

On the activities of the conference, Dr. Al-Askar indicated that they vary between intervention sessions that deal with the academic dimensions related to the national media, and dialogue sessions that deal with part of professional issues related to the national media, with the participation of a number of professional and academic media professionals, in addition to special sessions in which elites of national leaders speak on a number of issues related to Saudi media affairs at the national and international levels.

His Excellency also indicated that the various fields of media and communication are today full of many different concepts about the ownership of the media, its roles and professional values, which is reflected directly on the national role of the media, adding that some media practices in developing countries tend to work according to market requirements to meet the desires of the masses at the expense of national priorities, with some media practices in the same countries preoccupied with propaganda work that those in charge of it imagine that they are thus achieving the public interest, without regard Communication variables and professional roles impose the need to marry the aspirations of the masses with the requirements of the national role of the media.

Dr. Al-Askar adds that despite the collapse of the media on its various ownership and orientations, during times of crises and external threats, to unite within the system of the national vision, this reality is not enough to interrupt the crystallization of the national media, as the positions and priorities of each or some of the media soon change after the crises are resolved and the situation stabilizes.

Despite what His Excellency sees as the emergence of many problems in the national practices of the media around the world, he believes that the Saudi media has been keen since its inception to play an important national role, especially to face the challenges that the Kingdom has gone through during its history due to regional and international repercussions, however, Dr. Al-Askar believes that media practices and legislation in the Kingdom need to be reviewed and evaluated, in order to ensure that media practices contribute to creating a local environment cognitively and behaviorally to keep pace with the Kingdom's Vision 2030. and achieve its objectives.
